VMware Workstation 11.1 with support for vCloud Air OnDemand

More recently there was an update to VMware Workstation 11 which in addition to the standard set of patches also brought something new. It is the ability to connect to the VMware vCloud Air OnDemand. I think that is a very good direction for VMware Workstation, especially for those who are not interested in building a home laboratories which include ESXi and vCenter servers (switches, NAS and all the rest).

vRealize Hyperic 5.8.4 – Monitor Apache server.

I have already written about this, but I will repeat it again. Hyperic is a brilliant solution to monitor almost everything, from servers to the application. In the case of VMware, Hyperic is added to many licenses, so you should use it. Its operation is fairly intuitive, perfectly integrates with other VMware solutions. In most cases, you just install the Agent which will detect all the necessary services. However, in the case of Apache is not that easy, we need to make a few extra steps.

vCloud Air OnDemand – how to send our virtual machines to the Cloud?

The answer to this question is simple and at the same time is not so. The only option is to use an vCloud Connector (I know that in the development is his (and vCloud Air Plugin for Web Client) successor, but it appears to the public until the end of the year). Fortunately, vCloud Connector does not require a license, is available for free. With such a configuration, will be used two Nodes, one installed by us and the second by VMware (run in multisite mode) within their vCloud Air environment.

vCloud Air OnDemand – first steps.

VMware vCloud Air is a relatively new initiative,  a VMware solution serving the Public Cloud services. This is to be the answer to Microsoft’s Azure and Amazon Web Services (and others). Of course, is profiled to the current VMware vSphere users by offering them a Disaster Recovery service (and others) on the basis of Hybrid Cloud. You can also, using Cloud services on demand (OnDemand/PayAsYouGo) perform test or dev tasks on dynamic environments (where we pay only for the used resources). And thanks to the ongoing promotion, which consists in the fact that VMware gives us a promo code worth $ 300 and validity of three months, We can see how it all works!

EMC VNX Content Pack for vRealize Log Insight – installation and configuration.

From VMware Solutions Exchange site you can download the EMC VNX Content Pack for vRealize Log Insight. This is a very good convenience to the users of both products. Unfortunately, along with this extension has not been published documentation describing the configuration on VNX side. Searching the Internet I not found the information in a consistent manner that shows how to configure the EMC VNX array to send logs to a central syslog (which is the Log Insight). For VNX File it’s not big problem, the controller is managed by the Linux system and simply redirect your logs. However, in the case of EMC Block, there is a rare case when the controllers are working under Windows control for which there is no access. In this case, we need to have a proxy server with installed  Unisphere Host Agent. In this post I will explain step by step configuration of all components, starting by installing the Unisphere Agent.
